I’m going to snipe her letter from The Telegraph Journal and let you see what I mean. Incidentally, though I have great respect for Irving Oil Ltd. and I hold them in the highest regard, should they decide to sue me for highlighting their content: it would be more than welcome considering the point that I’m trying to underscore here.

Where’s compassion and accountability?

The Graham government should hang their heads in shame for their callous treatment of many individuals in this province. Don’t believe for one minute that we don’t have a two tiered Health care system in this country or that it is universal.

Ministers are able to access any medication they require but that is not the case for others living in our province. Many are forced by our government to spend every last penny before they can even apply for assistance for high drug costs and even then, they are often declined.

There are only two provinces in Canada that do not have a program to help their citizens with catastrophic drug costs, P.E.I. and New Brunswick.

What kind of person denies medication to those in dire need? Where is the compassion and accountability? How is it that the other provinces are able to help their citizens?

These questions have gone unanswered for far too long.

Having gone through what she speaks (and currently going through it again) of and having fought an increasingly uphill battle to get help funding the medication that I so desperately needed, I know the situation well. Its enough to be poor, raising a family and fighting off a debilitating disease without needing to jump through hoops and file miles of red tape just to see if *maybe* you qualify for some sort of help from a government that promises timely treatment and quality care. I’ve never heard of a minister needing to beg his peers for help.

As far as I’m concerned, the only people in this province who could possibly be against any sort of catastrophic drug plan are folks who have either never had any kind of serious illness, never had a loved one develop any kind of serious illness or they’re so well off that it wouldn’t every touch their bankroll anyhow. Those people need a dose of reality, and quick.

Its been far too long that the province of New Brunswick has gone without some sort of back up plan in matters of genuine health care. As one of only two provinces in the country still holding out on something so vital and so necessary–to me this denotes a certain sort of stubborn denial or maybe, they’re all just too cheap and too heartless to give a rat’s ass.

Either way, I’d give anything to be a fly on the wall when disease and/or catastrophic illness visits the homes or bodies of the holdouts who are fighting so tooth and nail to deny us the health care that we’ve been promised, and so sorely deserve.

I’m trying to find the words to explain my latest medical adventures without sounding like a whiner but its becoming exceedingly difficult because lets face it–at this point–I am being a whiner, and I believe, with pretty good cause.

So when last we checked in on the heroine, she was struggling with the super villain Crohns and her greatest weapon (Remicade) was steadily weakening…

OK. My government funded the Remicade, after a five year uphill battle with a former doctor of mine who blamed the whole thing on said government but in reality: he is a bloody sadistic prick with a God complex the size of Manhattan. The government would likely have funded the whole kit straight from the get go but Dr Satan refused to put the order in. I’ve since learnt that he won’t order the drug for anyone if he can help it because it takes away some of his power as an asshat. ASSHAT.

Annywaaays…

So the Remicade was working fairly well at first except that it would crash before the next infusion was scheduled so by the time I got to the next one, the first one had run out, all the inflammation had returned, and it was like I hadn’t even gotten the last infusion. They’re supposed to come close enough together that each infusion sorta boosts the last. Because of that lack of boostiness: the whole bottom fell out. The symptoms reappeared, and worse than before. Shitty.

The going consensus was that I’d need an additional drug. The basis for my being on just the Remicade was some health-care babble that my country’s doctors have been on about referred to as “the top down approach” meaning the less drugs the better, yada-yada, unless of course, you’ve already proven that theory (at least in your own case) to be utter fuck-shit. Which I had, long ago.

It boils down to “methotrexate” which is via hypodermic needle weekly which means I need to see a clinic nurse to get certified to give myself injections (as if living in the hood wasn’t enough evidence of needular adeptitude for the govt red-tapers) and then I get this happening new pile of WTFness. This also comes with a folate supplement daily, and then if this doesn’t jump start the Remicade: THEN we gotta go back to the govt and beg for yet more funding to get the Remicade dosage increased to the max and rescheduled at six week intervals rather than eight.

Sounds like not much work, eh?

Because of the powerful Metho stuff (its a heavy duty immunosuppressant) I need constant monitoring in the form of blood-works and screenings, to make sure my kidneys, liver, etc. don’t crap out on me. Oh and also the shit fucks with T cells and also can cause a permanent lung infection thing, like forever kinda permanent. Constant monitoring, meaning: 2-4 visits to the hospital across town (maybe more) every month, at a cash cost of $18 per taxi ride since I don’t have vehicular access otherwise, as well as the cost of a sitter and I don’t know anyone, like ANYONE that can or would during the day … annnd … ::contrary to my fucking immense style and my totally fucking rocking computer shit:: I’m not bloody rich!

Why the hell do you think I’m living in the goddamn slum in the first place?

Honestly, after so many years of this shit, rather than becoming inured, I’ve become totally oversensitive, ready to scream at the drop of a pin, in fact. I’m no pillar of Goddesslike strength, that’s for sure. In all reality: I am coming the fuck apart at the seams.

Oh and also: I need another CT Scan stat because if I don’t have an infection in my abdomen or some type of penetration/leakage issue: the it would appear that I’m also flying high in the throes of a sickeningly wrong case of premature menopause brought on by ALL the rest of this utter B.S. sooo… them is some pretty sour damn apples, want a bite?

Really, its enough to make you just wanna sit right down and…………..
and I did, believe me, I fucking did.

If this shit doesn’t work, if we up the Remicade and IT doesn’t work, if the bottom falls out yet again..
Next stop? The fucking knife, yay me. Oh yay damn me.
